The 11th Annual IEAGHG CCS Summer School

 Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada
 Jul 17, 2017 – Jul 22, 2017

The International CCS Knowledge Centre was proud to host the 11th annual IEA Greenhouse Gas R&D Programme (IEAGHG) Carbon Capture and Storage Summer School.

The IEAGHG CCS Summer School was initiated to provide students of diverse academic backgrounds with a broad understanding of the issues surrounding CCS and encourage their active participation in this area. The main aim of the Summer School is to improve the CCS-knowledgeable human resource pool for CCS development and deployment. To enable this, there are three main objectives: 1. encourage young researchers to stay in the area and make a career in CCS; 2. create understanding to be influential decision makers for CCS in the future; and, 3. create a student global network of international peers and contacts in CCS at the start of their careers. The Summer School's intensive week long program meets these objectives by: Broadening their knowledge base wider than their specific CCS area; Providing the wider context for their specific CCS area; Reinforcement of choosing their specific CCS area; Raising awareness and interest in a CCS area; and, Facilitating their own global network of peers in CCS to use throughout their careers.

The 2017 summer school showcased SaskPower's CCS projects and included education and experience relevant to post-combustion capture, storage, test facilities, results and challenges. It was also an opportunity to learn about SaskPower’s experience in a technical way, with the Boundary Dam Integrated Carbon Capture and Storage Project having been in operation since October 2, 2014.
