As President and Chief Executive Officer, James is responsible for the overall leadership and strategic guidance of the Knowledge Centre, with a focus on enhancing business growth, developing partnerships and seeking new business opportunities to support the development of CCS projects globally.
Prior to joining the Knowledge Centre, James spent nearly two decades working in Canada’s energy sector. His career to date has spanned technical and leadership roles in upstream, midstream, downstream and technology development, as well as strategic and corporate functions that include acquisition and divestitures, investor relations, corporate planning and human resources. He has extensive experience working on strategic initiatives at the executive and board level.
James holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Waterloo and a Global Energy Executive MBA from the Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary.

At the International CCS Knowledge Centre (Knowledge Centre), Debbie contributes to the integrity of the Corporation overseeing a strong governance structure and the provision of its corporate services. She provides the leadership, management and vision necessary to aid in the effective growth of the organization, its financial integrity, and the foundation for operating with efficiency and oversight. Debbie also oversees the communications, marketing, media relations functions to ensure the vibrancy of the Knowledge Centre brand and alignment with principles and mandate.
Prior to this appointment, Debbie had spent two decades at SaskPower where she had been the Manager of the Coal Combustion Products and Contracts Management Department, where her role was to develop, implement, lead and oversee a Contracts Management Department. Her career at the corporation started in 1994, helping set up and manage SaskPower International Inc. - a wholly-owned subsidiary of the SaskPower Corporation.

As the Vice-President of Strategy and Stakeholder Relations, Beth represents the International CCS Knowledge (Knowledge Centre) amongst global decision makers and financiers to accelerate engagement on and understanding of the deployment of carbon capture and storage (CCS). With a focus on linking CCS knowledge globally to reduce locked-in investments and collaboratively support the goals of the Paris Agreement. Her understanding of complex climate change matters, policies and regulations, and international financing concerns act as a solid basis for assisting both national and international implementation strategies for technologies that support environmental targets.
Prior to joining the Knowledge Centre, Beth worked briefly as legal counsel for the provincial Crown utility. She pairs this industrial perspective with regulatory knowledge as Acting Director of Climate Change with the Government of Saskatchewan. These positions are reflective of Beth’s time with the National Round Table on the Environment and the Economy where she focused on analysing provincial/territorial climate action plans and making recommendations for low cost and sustainable pathways. Beth’s legal education, teaching and practice have explored balancing energy, the environment, and social implications.

At the International CCS Knowledge Centre (Knowledge Centre) Rafay guides the engineering and project management teams to achieve success in project execution and knowledge sharing to support our core value of advancing the implementation of carbon capture.
Rafay’s true passion lies in fostering growth in individuals and teams alike by creating an inclusive environment that promotes creative problem solving backstopped by a practical understanding of technical and economic business drivers.
Prior to joining the Knowledge Centre, Rafay worked as an engineering and project management consultant. His experience ranges from large capital projects to feasibility studies on new technologies for use in the oil and gas industry. His areas of technical expertise include amine plants, natural gas liquids and refrigeration, CO2 compression, dehydration and transport.
Rafay holds a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering from McGill University and is a registered professional engineer in the province of Alberta.

At the International CCS Knowledge Centre (Knowledge Centre), Brent shares his knowledge acquired through involvement in the development of the Boundary Dam 3 (BD3) CCS facility, from the initial feasibility studies through to design, procurement, and operation. While the BD3 project was the highlight of 25 years at SaskPower, he also worked in the areas of Power Plant Thermal Performance and Generation Planning. Brent has been with the Knowledge Centre for over six years sharing the knowledge gained with other developing CCS projects.
Brent holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Saskatchewan and is nearing completion of his Masters in Process Systems Engineering at the University of Regina.

Colin was SaskPower’s manager of chemical services during the development and start-up of the BD3 CCS facility. Colin has 25+ years of experience in a broad range of chemistry related areas including liquid and gas analyses, instrument selection, analytical techniques and troubleshooting capture plant processes. He has firsthand experience with the chemistry-related challenges experienced following start-up of the BD3 CCS facility. Colin has also been involved in pilot plant design and review of test data.

At the International CCS Knowledge Centre (Knowledge Centre), Collins plays a vital role in offering technical assistance and supporting initiatives aimed at advancing CCS projects to align with environmental and industry standards. His proficiency in data analysis and visualization is a valuable resource in providing key inputs for new CCS plants.
Prior to joining the Knowledge Centre, He worked as a research assistant where his day-to-day activities were focused on pilot testing of amine-based CO2 capture systems and process optimization. He also has comprehensive understanding and experience in analyzing the impact of flue gas constituents on solvent integrity and the overall efficiency of capture systems.
Collins holds an Master of Applied Science in Process Systems Engineering from the University of Regina and an active member of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS).

Esther’s focus at the International CCS Knowledge Centre is on conducting economic and technical analysis of carbon capture and storage (CCS) process designs to ensure they can achieve emissions reduction targets. She also brings on board a comprehensive understanding and hands-on experience in amine-based carbon capture technology and the application of membranes for advancing sustainable carbon capture solutions that are environmentally responsible.
Her expertise and knowledge regarding CCS technologies make her adept at designing and implementing innovative processes for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. She is excited about leveraging the experience gained from her participation in various research activities pivoted on solvent development, process design and optimization to contribute to the success of projects aimed at combating climate change and securing a sustainable future.
Esther is a member of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS) and holds a Master of Applied Science in Process Systems Engineering from the University of Regina.

At the International CCS Knowledge Centre (Knowledge Centre), Everett provides leadership, mentorship, and senior project management to carbon capture projects that span all industries.
Everett has 25+ years in the energy sector, consisting of oil and gas refining, hydrogen processing (SMR and ATR), Gas to Liquids (GTL) refining, Hydrogenated-Derived Renewable Diesel (HDRD) refining, Used Motor Oil (UMO) refining, crude oil storage terminal operations and pipeline design. He also has experience with ammonia processes through project development discussions with licensed vendors.
As a staff member of the Co-op Refinery Complex (1998-2010) and Gibson Energy (2010 – 2020), he has extensive knowledge of project development, project construction, operations, and maintenance. He has held numerous management positions during that time, the latest being manager of project development and execution.
Everett is also the president and owner of Rueve Energy Projects Inc. (2021-Current), an engineering consulting firm located in White City, SK. He has his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Saskatchewan. He also holds an Executive Master’s in Business Administration from the Kenneth Levene Graduate School of Business completed at the University of Regina.

At the International CCS Knowledge Centre (Knowledge Centre), Laura provides project management and technical support to carbon capture projects across various industries.
Prior to joining the Knowledge Centre, Laura spent nine years working for various business units at Cenovus Energy. She spent time in conventional oil and gas, enhanced oil recovery, SAGD, and technology development. She has expertise in project management, decision analysis, economic modelling, and long-term development planning. Her experience also includes CO2 surface facilities engineering and evaluations of a diverse set of large and small projects.
Laura is a natural collaborator and is adept at coordinating cross-functional teams to deliver strong business results.
Laura holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Alberta and is a registered professional engineer in the province of Alberta.

Luke is a licensed mechanical engineer and project manager with nearly fifteen years of diverse experience in petrochemical, chemical, mining, potash, and utilities. He has expertise across all project life cycle phases, including development, feasibility, FEED, detailed design, construction, and commissioning. Luke's unique background includes training as a refinery process operator, supporting well testing offshore in the Norwegian Continental Shelf, and leading the execution of a fire insurance rebuilt project in a refinery.

As Principal Chemical Engineer, Keith lends considerable knowledge and expertise to the Knowledge Centre team. Keith brings 15 years of direct CCS experience from his previous role as SaskPower's primary chemical engineer for the evaluation, recommendation, construction, start-up, and commissioning of the Boundary Dam Unit 3 (BD3) CCS facility in Estevan, Saskatchewan. His ongoing involvement with BD3 included operational process optimization and troubleshooting. More recently, his focus involved amine health and contaminant cleaning investigation and implementation to further optimize the CCS process.

Pai has over 15 years of experience in power generation, oil and gas, and carbon capture. Pai holds a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) certification and is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) with a Certified Energy Management (CEM) designation. He is an experienced Mechanical, Process Engineer, and Project Engineer/Manager with a demonstrated history of working in the design industry. Pai specializes in providing engineering services including but not limited to Front-End Engineering and Design (FEED), PFD, P&ID, plant layout, process modeling, 3D model, hydraulic modeling, static/rotating/pressure equipment selection, piping design, energy-saving option, project conceptualization, and cost-benefit review.

Patit holds a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Thailand, with a focus on process simulation, and a Master of Applied Science in Process Systems Engineering from the University of Regina, with a focus on amine degradation in CCS applied to industrial processes.
In his time at the Knowledge Centre, Patit has supported pre-feasibility, feasibility, and FEED studies for various CCS projects. He has improved his ability to understand and communicate complex topics in clear terms. This makes him an invaluable member of our team as we seek elegant solutions to difficult problems in CCS. Patit is also skilled in process simulation, data analysis and project coordination which he has applied towards assisting SaskPower on projects aimed at optimization of the BD3 CCS facility.

At the International CCS Knowledge Centre (Knowledge Centre), Shannon provides project management and technical support to capture projects across various industries. Shannon develops projects by tailoring work scopes and execution plans to match the unique needs of each site while managing the technical team.
Prior to joining the Knowledge Centre, Shannon spent 14 years in engineering, project management, and strategic planning within the Canadian upstream oil and gas sector, in the areas of coal bed methane, shale gas, and polymer flood oil recovery. Her engineering expertise was in project management, project execution, and developing long-term area development plans. Her experience includes portfolio management and project evaluations of large-scale projects.
Shannon’s project management experience includes risk mitigation, scheduling, budgeting, execution, and project lookbacks. She has led various teams to effectively develop and optimize oil and gas assets.
Shannon holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of Saskatchewan.

Yuewu’s focus at the International CCS Knowledge Centre (Knowledge Centre) is providing advice to CCS projects by reviewing the design and performing feasibility studies which applies his direct experiences and lessons learned from the SaskPower Boundary Dam 3 (BD3) CCS facility to help owners advancing the CCS implementation.
Prior to joining the Knowledge Centre, Yuewu had worked at SaskPower BD3 CCS initiatives as an engineer and lead on mechanical commissioning in capture island from 2011 to 2018. His areas of focus were on reviewing design, managing supply and install contracts in owner’s scope, mechanical commissioning, resolving deficiencies, improving performance, and supporting the overall operation and maintenance.
Yuewu also has 18 years of mechanical engineering experience in the power generation industry. It includes studies, projects initiatives, designs, review designs, manage equipment supply, install and commissioning, and technical support on operation, maintenance, and overhaul on fossil fuel power stations. Yuewu holds a master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.

She provides expertise for consulting and communications efforts, implements knowledge-sharing activities and pursues new funding opportunities. Breanne’s focus is on positioning the Knowledge Centre at the forefront of sustainable development and ensuring successful alignment with Canadian carbon reduction objectives.
Breanne has spent her career dedicated to understanding Canada’s evolving energy landscape, building collaborative relationships, and sharing information with industry, government, and the public. Most recently at Carbon Management Canada, she played a pivotal role in aligning Canada’s CCS Research and Technology organizations to effectively market the expertise and facilities available to validate solutions. With a strong foundation in public relations, Breanne brings a wealth of experience, combining strategic thinking with hands-on expertise to drive meaningful change in the pursuit of a low-carbon future.

As Principal Associate, Regulatory Affairs, J.P. provides sector leading expertise on regulatory files for carbon capture projects.
J.P. served as Regulatory Lead for the Shell Quest Carbon Capture and Storage Project. He was also Director of Government and Regulatory Affairs for Enhance Energy, founder of the Alberta Carbon Trunk Line. J.P. led the development of both the CCS and Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) Quantification Protocols for the Alberta Emission Offset System and has developed and marketed over a megatonne of carbon credits.
Previously, J.P. held positions as a Senior Advisor on climate change to the federal Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Corporate Advisor on climate change for the Regulatory Affairs group in Shell Canada, and Director of Energy Transitions for ATCO Group. J.P. was part of the Government of Alberta Carbon Capture and Storage Regulatory Framework Assessment and is currently part of the Technical Expert Team supporting Environment and Climate Change Canada in the development of federal quantification protocols.
J.P. is also the Founder and Principal of Nexus Climate & Energy Strategy, a consultancy based in Alberta, and is an avid hiker in his free time.

As a Senior Policy Analyst, Mac serves as the focal point within the Policy, Regulatory and Stakeholder Engagement team providing comprehensive analytical, strategic, and operational guidance both internally and externally. Mac keeps current on CCS industry developments to prepare discussion papers, briefings, analysis reports, legislation and regulatory reviews. Mac leads advisory projects for stakeholders with a focus on helping them to identify, pursue and advocate for incentives and programs that are critical to bringing CCS projects to final investment decisions.
Prior to joining the Knowledge Centre, Mac worked with Prairies Economic Development Canada as a Senior Business Officer managing the Alberta Indigenous Clean Energy Initiative and administering community economic development projects. Mac also has experience as a management consultant with MNP supporting clients to develop and implement strategies and advocate for funding.

From reporting on environmental issues in the Rocky Mountains to racing solar-powered cars across North America and working with top researchers and executives in Canada’s biggest organizations, Grady has seen first-hand the power of strategic communications and stakeholder engagement to inspire people and drive change. Grady leads all aspects of communications and marketing for the International CCS Knowledge Centre, advancing the development of carbon capture and storage as a key mitigation strategy for climate action. Prior to joining the Knowledge Centre, Grady directed and managed communications, engagement, and external relations with Alberta Precision Laboratories, the Canadian Energy Centre, TC Energy, and the University of Calgary, following a decade career as a journalist.
Grady holds a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Calgary.

Katherine joined the Knowledge Centre as Marketing and Business Development Advisor in early 2023. She works with the team to develop and implement effective marketing and communication strategies to elevate the Knowledge Centre's brand and foster new business opportunities.
Prior to the Knowledge Centre, Katherine worked for nearly a decade in legal marketing, communications, and business development, serving three of Canada’s largest corporate law firms. She was also the manager of operations for a national provider of employee group benefits.
Katherine also has an extensive career as a professional performing artist, working on stage, film, television, radio, and web, and as such, works with the Knowledge Centre part-time. Her dynamic background has instilled in her an appreciation for the potent power of storytelling and communication in both performance and branding.
Katherine is a graduate of Theatre & Film Studies at Red Deer College and Music Theatre Performance at Sheridan College. She resides in Calgary with her tiny dog and many plants and is a fervent participant in Calgary’s vibrant Latin dance scene.

Mandy has over 15 years of experience working in the administrative field.
