Strategy 2030 of ADB has the vision to achieve a prosperous, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable Asia and the Pacific. Asia’s environmental sustainability is expected to be achieved through support for climate change mitigation technologies. Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage (CCUS) has been identified as a crucial CO2 mitigation technology for Asia since more than a decade by ADB. During this time,

ADB has organized capacity building workshops, assisted in policy formulation, introduced new technologies, helped with pre-feasibility studies for CCUS projects in Asia and supported pilot projects. Some of the developing member countries where ADB was involved in the promotion of CCUS include PRC, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Mongolia. ADB continues to support these activities with its technical assistance TA 96861.

ADB is seeing increasing interest in CO2 utilization due to development of the technology, better economics and acceptance of greater corporate social responsibilities by the corporations towards reducing Greenhouse Gases. Rapid and massive reduction of GHG emission is required to reach and surpass the goals set up by the Paris Agreement. In light of this, ADB decided to introduce promising CCUS technologies to Asia so that the time between conceiving the ideas and implementing them in the field is minimized.

The Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage Game Changers is a Compendium of Technologies and Enablers which showcases innovative CCUS technologies that are being demonstrated or are in the early commercialization stage. The collection features key highlights, advantage, applications, the status of development and commercialization, and potential for deployment in Asia.

The proposed seminar will be bringing all the contributors of the compendium on a common platform with the stakeholders of Asia comprising of the policymakers, entrepreneurs and academicians. It will be an opportunity to explore how these novel CCUS technologies and concepts can be implemented rapidly in the DMCs of ADB.
