Join our VP, Beth (Hardy) Valiaho, as she shares learnings on the application of Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage (CCUS) in industrial sectors at this Clean Energy Ministerial CCUS Initiative. This event is a government-led platform to accelerate the deployment of carbon capture as part of countries' and industries' clean energy portfolio. Multilateral development banks and other finance institutions are critically important partners on this journey.
The 2021 Asia Clean Energy Forum will again bring together energy experts from various Asian countries and beyond. Join our experts at this side-event to hear about the opportunity of carbon capture, utilisation and storage for various industrial sectors, as well as about how CCUS projects can be financed.
Background
This side-event, co-hosted by the Clean Energy Ministerial CCUS Initiative and Asian Development Bank, is composed of two parts: 1) Providing examples of solutions that CCUS can provide for industrial sectors and 2) Discussion on how finance professionals would tackle the financing of a carbon capture investment project.
The first part will have a focus on cement, hydrogen and waste-to-energy industries. Three speakers will tell their experience of CCUS project design and this is followed by dialogue and Q&A.
The second part will discuss experience in designing the financing of CCUS projects, from the perspective of finance-sector organisations. It will provide deep-dive views on actual projects that the banks have been, or are planning to be, involved in.
Objectives
To extend knowledge on CCUS as a decarbonization technology for heavy industry.
To allow discussion on conducive framework conditions enabling CCUS deployment.
To share knowledge on how CCUS projects could be financed.

About Organizers
Created in 2010, the Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM) is a global forum where major economies and forward leaning countries work together to share best practices and promote policies and programs that encourage and facilitate the transition to a global clean energy economy. CEM members account for approximately 75% of global greenhouse gas emissions and 90% of global clean energy investments.
The Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage Initiative is one of over twenty work streams ensuring year-round work of the CEM. The twelve Member Countries of the CCUS Initiative are leaders in CCUS and have joined together to create a sustained platform for governments, the private sector and the investment community to engage and accelerate CCUS deployment. The Initiative works to facilitate investment opportunities and to disseminate emerging CCUS policy, regulatory and investment best practices and novel ideas.
In 2020, the Initiative created the “Finance Sector Lead Group for CCUS”, with the idea of providing a platform for the finance sector to discuss how to improve the investment case for CCUS.
